Our initiatives

  • 2019 - NYWF landscape analysis
2020 - Launch of the project with a cohort of 6 groups
    2021-2022 - Microgrants!
2023 - Second round of microgrants & Phase 2 of BEJP
2024 - Design and launch of Su Su program

  • Led by the cohort, the BEJP microgranting program disbursed $85,000 between May 2022 and April 2023, in grants ranging from $2,000–$5,000.

  • One of the central projects in Phase 2 is exploring community savings models, particularly the culturally relevant Su Su  model—a Su Su is ..
“a form of rotating savings and credit association, a type of informal savings club arrangement between a small group of people who take turns by throwing hand as the partners call it. The name is used in Africa (especially West Africa) and the Caribbean.”

  • We aspire to expand our Su Su work into a community-driven investment fund that fosters economic self-determination. This fund would allow community members to pool resources for sustainable, community-led projects and investments.
